Play All Day – Create and Print Playroom Art

Apr 04, 2019

Art that's appropriate for a kid's space, especially one shared by multiple children, can be very tricky! My boy wants dinosaurs, my girl wants unicorns...

In this DIY tutorial I’ll show you a great alternative to traditional art that I used in my own home. By creating a simple and fun print that says “Play All Day” which I printed online and installed in a budget friendly IKEA frame, I achieved the look below for under $60.

To download my "Play All Day" print for free, just enter your email at the bottom of this post!

Quick Instructions:
  1. Download my free "Play All Day" print – it includes four different colour options and can be resized down as needed (they are 24" x 36") –  click here to download .

  2. Find an online printer and order your print. I used PosterJack.ca, and printed it as a Satin Matte Poster Print for under $30 – check it out.

Tip! PosterJack does major discount sales frequently, so signup for their newsletter and watch for a discount!

  3. Install your print into a frame. I used a 24" x 36" (61cm x 91cm) photo frame from IKEA – get it here .

When we moved into this home we decided that the extra bedroom on our upper floor would be the perfect kid's playroom; we have a daughter and son so I wanted to create a space that they would both enjoy. If you follow me on Instagram (@decoratinglife.ca) then you know I’m usually a lover of neutral spaces...but not when it comes to my kids! This room is full of colour and textures; you can find all the source info for this room at the bottom of this post.
I had these super cute peekaboo animal posters from @lilaandlola in our previous playroom and they are a favourite of the kids. I printed these myself using @posterjack and framed them using Ikea frames. I love how they look against the fun wall decals from @urbanwalls
But I was struggling because we had this big empty space to the right of our couch and it was just waiting for the right piece of art! Well after looking and then looking some more, I decided to design it myself. I wanted something that would complement the existing art without competing with it. Typographic art is very popular these days and I wanted a fun saying that encourages my kiddos to do what they do best! So "Play All Day” popped into my mind.

The brush stroke effect is the perfect complement to the wall decals. I designed mine to be this pretty blue colour, but I've hand-picked three other colour options for you to choose from and they are all included in the free download below.
I used the online printer PosterJack to print this on a simple matte paper, and it shipped directly to my home in less than a week. I also bought an Ikea frame to match my existing artwork. All you need to do is upload the file directly to poster jack, specify the size you need for your frame, and they will ship it directly to your home.
Unroll the print and place it carefully in the frame....and voila! You now have instant DIY art perfect for your playroom or nursery that didn’t cost you a pretty penny. Now go "Play All Day" with your tiny people!

Cheers,
Kaitlyn
