Do-it-Yourself - Cheesecloth Ghosts
October 21, 2021
Easy Halloween decor that you can use year after year!
The kids and I make these cheesecloth ghosts every year for Halloween. They are an easy craft that make the perfect Halloween decor!
What you need:
- Whisk
- Cheescloth
- Microwave safe bowl
- Vase or stands (to get different heights for your ghosts)
- Balloons
- Tape
- Felt for eyes
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 cup cornstarch
Steps:
- Mix the warm water and cornstarch in a large microwave safe bowl.
- Microwave mixture in 30 second increments, stirring before each time. It will thicken quickly once it's warm.
- Let cool; it should look like thick paste.
- Blow up your balloons (one for each ghost) and secure them with tape on top of whatever stand you are using. This will form the head of the ghosts.
- Unravel the cheesecloth.
- Saturate your cheesecloth with the water/cornstarch mixture. Make sure to work this "goop" through the entire cloth.
- Pull the cheesecloth apart. You don't want any heavy sections.
- Drape the cloth carefully over the balloons; make sure it's long enough to puddle around the base. We used two layers of the cheesecloth to make sure the ghosts were very sturdy.
- Let dry for 24 hours.
- Pop the balloons with a pin and remove the stand from underneath.
- Add felt eyes and any accessories.
- Place a battery operated candle underneath for a fun nighttime glow!
